Sheri has over a decade of experience practicing law and has served in leadership and advocacy roles within the broader community for twenty-plus years.
This year she founded the Yampa Valley Law & Advocacy Center, a legal organization that advances the rights of children who have experienced abuse, neglect or instability, and defends the rights of victims of domestic and sexual violence by providing quality pro bono legal representation, and advocating for systematic change and increased access to justice.
As an attorney with the Texas Civil Rights Project, Sheri served as an Equal Justice Works Fellow and represented low-income individuals in all phases of federal and state civil rights litigation, including actions arising under Section 1983, Title IX, the ADA, Section 504, the IDEA, and the Medicaid Act. She also developed and implemented an Amicus Curiae program for the organization, and regularly managed interns, law clerks and pro bono attorneys. As an attorney with the Southern Disability Law Center, Sheri represented low-income children with disabilities in administrative litigation before the Texas Education Agency and provided advocacy training to parent groups in urban school districts.
Beyond her legal practice, Sheri has extensive experience advocating for children in need and crime victims. As a guardian ad litem in child abuse and neglect proceedings, Sheri advocated for older foster youth in the permanent managing conservatorship of Texas. Additionally, as a legal advocate with a national domestic violence center, Sheri regularly interfaced with the District Attorney’s Office and provided legal advocacy support to survivors seeking orders of protection in court, engaged in safety planning and lethality assessments with clients, and provided rape crisis support as a hospital-based medical advocate.
She currently serves as the President of the Board of the Southern Disability Law Center.
Sheri is licensed to practice law in Texas and holds a Pro Bono Counsel Certification in Colorado. She is available to provide mediation services and pro bono representation to clients meeting eligibility standards set forth by Colorado Legal Services and the Supreme Court of Colorado.
Sheri has a law degree from Vanderbilt Law School (J.D., 2000, Order of the Coif). She also has a degree in Law & Psychology from Albion College (B.A., 1997, Summa Cum Laude), and graduated as a member of the Gerald R. Ford Institute for Leadership in Public Policy and Service.
